James and Samantha Macpherson are a dymanic couple in their mid-30s who moved to Townsville to take on leadership of Calvary Christian Church in October 2007.
They are passionate about empowering people to be all that God has called them to be.
James says: “Our great passion in life is to build a large, influential church that equips and empowers people to live victorious lives through faith in Jesus Christ. We are totally dedicated to that one end.”
James is a former News Limited journalist who is in great demand as a speaker at churches and leadership conferences around the world. He is also an author whose best-selling youth leadership book has been sold in Australia, New Zealand, America and Eastern Europe.
He is the son of a minister and felt called to the ministry from an early age.
“Ever since I can remember, I always wanted to lead a dynamic church,” James says. “Jesus said that He would build His church and, to me, there is no more noble venture than partnering with Christ to make His church great.
“What makes a church great? Equipping and releasing people to be who God has called them to be so that they can influence their world for good is the hallmark of a great church. It’s what we are all about at Calvary.”
Aside from his family (James has twin sons Joseph and Benjamin) his other great passions in life are AFL football, reading biographies, blogging and drinking coffee over the weekend papers at The Strand)
